And your new Miss Brainerd Lakes is...

First off, wow. My year was filled with an abundant supply of blessings. I continue to be amazed at the love and support my community pours into the Miss Brainerd Lakes Scholarship Program, Inc. and I couldn't be more excited for the new titleholders and the year they have ahead of them!

The biggest congrats to Emily Lundgren, the new Miss Brainerd Lakes 2014! Emily is fantastic and I know she will be an incredible representative for the Brainerd Lakes Area community. Also congrats to the new Miss Brainerd Lakes' Outstanding Teen, Rylie Young; Miss Central Lakes, Jade Hovet; and Miss Central Lakes' Outstanding Teen, Kate Smith!

Thank you to all for making my year so great! I'm certainly not done competing, but in the meantime you can find me blogging at www.baileywachholz.blogspot.com in which I hope to keep updated as much as possible.

With the biggest and fullest heart,

My Last Month

Has it really been a month since my last blog?! Hard to believe how fast this month has gone by! In just two short weeks I'll be crowning a new Miss Brainerd Lakes.

Since it has in fact been a month since my last blog, I'll start with Miracle Treat Day at the end of August. I participated in Miracle Treat Day at both Dairy Queens in Brainerd and at the Nisswa Dairy Queen. A portion of every blizzard purchased was donated to the Children's Miracle Network so it was really fun to be able to be there as Miss Brainerd Lakes and talk about how great the Children's Miracle Network is and the fantastic work of Gillette Children's Hospital.

I was then able to volunteer at the Brainerd Senior Center's annual RibFest fundraiser serving pie and speaking to those in attendance. It's always fun to volunteer at events like this one and see people you know! I was happy to give my time to such a fantastic program.

Last week, my sister queens and I got asked to attend the annual fundraiser for Ski Gull, which is a local non-profit program. We were in charge of selling raffles tickets for various prizes and it was really great to see the community come together to support a great cause. I am so lucky to represent the Brainerd community!

Most recently, my sister queens joined my team for the Lakes Area Walk to End Alzheimer's. This was my fifth year walking in honor of my Dad and once again Team Wachholz was one of the top fundraisers! Thanks to the help of my team, I was able to raise just under $4,000 which put me under my goal but I'll be raising money until the end of the year. If you feel inclined to help me reach my $5,000 goal, please visit www.alz/org/walk and search for my name or for Team Wachholz 2014.

Right after the walk, we raced over to downtown Brainerd for the Homecoming Parade! It's always fun to see to turnout of people decked out in blue and white and to see some familiar faces. This was my second year doing this as Miss Brainerd Lakes (because the pageant was moved out 2 months), but I'd have to say that this year was better than last because it was nearly 75 degrees and sunny compared to the 60 degree and rain we had last year. We also had the opportunity to sell cupcakes at the football as a fundraiser for our scholarship fund! It was well worth it as we raised a lot of money for our scholarships. I am so excited for our pageant!

The homecoming parade was bittersweet as I realized that it was my last official appearance. While I hope I will have another title in the future, I know I will never be Miss Brainerd Lakes again. This was such a fantastic year! I hope to see you all at the pageant on October 18th at 4pm at Tornstrom Auditorium in Brainerd to see some incredible young women compete.

With love and gratitude,
Miss Brainerd Lakes 2013
